I am retired and currently living on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland. I started painting seriously, just before retiring, and have found that it has since become something of an obsession. At first, I was drawn towards depicting the beauty and colours of our local beaches. I mean, how could it have been otherwise! The various moods and colours of the ocean, depending on the weather and the time of day were, I found, inspirational.
Over time, and with a lot of art courses under my belt, some in person, some online, I have expanded my list of preferred subjects to include abstracts as well as flowers, animals, eg dogs and horses etc. I enjoy experimenting with various mediums, alcohol and acrylic inks, coloured pigments and even collage, although these days I mainly use oils.
Along the way I have found that perhaps there were two life happenings that I feel majorly affected my work. Firstly, my age! I am 73 going on 74, and I do feel that advanced years gives one more of an overall perspective in observing life, being allowed to just mainly observe from the sidelines, as it were. The second event, and of more significance to me, was the death of my beloved son, Martin, in 2012. This obviously shook me out of any complacency surrounding life itself. It belatedly taught me that lives, and time itself, are fleeting and need to be enjoyed, the beauty savoured and appreciated whilst one still can.
While painting different subjects which may strike my fancy, I have yet to find my particular style. I do know I don't like to paint "loosely". Most of my paintings are structured, even the abstracts generally have a planned vibe rather than a spontaneous one. I usually have a limited palette and like brighter colours. So maybe this is my style after all!
I sincerely thank you for your interest and taking the time to read my bio! ðÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
