Medlar Fruits

Description : Medlar, also known as 'Monkey's Bottom', 'Open Arse' and other more inappropriate names is a old style fruit tree from the South-West of England. As it is rotten before it is ripe, it has been used in literature as a symbol of prostitution and destitution in Chaucer, Shakespeare and others. I did not know any of this when I painted it. It was just an interesting fruit at the bottom of our garden.
